Councils herbiciding the pavements

Seeing Phils "herbicide" post reminded me of this......... our local council (Dunstable) and another one (Harrow) wherre I have a load of regular work......... wonder if anyone has any idea what they use for treating the pavements as its incredibly effective!! They drive along on a little 4 wheel machine with a big tank on the back and they have a lance in one hand and the whole operation looks extremely haphazard. You'd think most of it would miss the paving joints and run of but no...... all the weeds die and stay dead!!

If it the same as they use round here, the ATV is equipped with a tank containing Roundup 360, applied using 'technology'. The front boom is contained within a 'curtain' and uses an infra red beam to detect green growing matter (ie weeds) and instructs the pump to operate such that it only hits that area (bit like a fuel injected car). They also have a lance to hit specific areas. It's supposed to be very economical with the chemical.

If its not automated, then it's just down to how good the guy is at 'squirting' while on the move....

You can always approach the Council and ask for a copy of the Safety Data Sheet of the product used - go on be a devil !!

Round here they're cheapskates as it plain old boring Roundup....;-))
  • Its a small !8hp or so Kubota tractor, I beleive the contractor is John O' Connors, as they do all the grass cutting etc. It does look a bit strang but I supose in reality is is just a scales down version of a feild sprayer! Ill try and get a snap next time the guy is by mine!
  • I forgot you're only just down the road from me in Eaton Bray.
