  • I think it depends what service(s) you might be offering - a regular visit service such as maintenance by a small crew might suit the presence of a uniform; customers may like having uniformed workmen at the house and the 'show-off' factor to the neighbours - on the otherhand some may be put off by uniforms if they aren't wanting to pay much for a maintenance service. A one man service might not suit a uniform as somehow it might seem funny - like someone knitted it specially type idea.

For hard landscaping I don't think it really matters a whole lot - we use printed hi-vis vests with name and number on, but other than that try to keep a (reasonably) smart dress-code - i.e. no trackies or badly ripped gear etc

On a plus side it can provide more mobile marketing - but only if yer crew are well behaved when yer not lookin!

    Cheers

  • I’m a great believer in having a professional appearance. It helps to present the right image and to sell your services at a decent price.

It is all about marketing and getting attention - getting your clients to notice you and your business. Marketing is the entire presentation, so not merely just advertising - uniforms too!
  • Yes i think intodays market and to keep up with all the garden franchises that are popping up all over a uniform is a must have.

Pick your colour wisley as most gardners round are area have opted for green :)
  • Aye, I just sorted out a new uniform for when I'm doing work outdoors, it hasn't been long enough to say whether it'll get me extra work, but I think that coupled with good quality work it will certainly help.

I also feel more professional when working in it, it's kind of a boost to me when working, hard to describe.

But I agree with Martin about the colour, green was a little too cliche for me. I was going to go for white, but decided against it at the last minute. Hey, at least it would have stood out!
  • Very interesting thanks. I agree about green being a cliche. I am thinking of having navy or a different shade of green t shirts with a small stiched orange logo on the breast pocket. Grey trousers with inserted knee pads and a matching fleece for winter and for summer zip up sweat shirt. It will probably cost around £100 per person. However I am saving a few thousand on cutting back on magazine adverts which I found did little to boost work last year.

I have found that by charging a premium rate more of the same work comes through. I also think that by having a uniform clients will feel more at ease when i leave guys on site.

  • Mines black with green and gold stitching and green trousers.

The pads in the knee pockets are a god send

  • My colours are black with a splash of poppy red, and I believe it is good for your business for the gang to look respectable, professional and adhere to a respectable code of practice, which includes looking after one self.

My gang fully understand that eyes can be watching at any moment and whilst wearing my name will conduct them selves in a proper manner.

They look like a team and work like a team, again this is about personal opinions

  • we have never gone for the company name on clothing but as we work throughout winter we have tried a lot of different sets of waterproofs for the team. Having tried all the cheaper stuff, I now buy them top of the range jackets, trousers, and boots, and find that the better clothing last longer, but the guys moral is boosted by better quality clothing, and they take care of it better too.
