Robbie, get someone else to do it :P

Seriously, one of the best methods are long reach lances that fit on jet washers. Like this, but with a 'U' fitting on end:

You can hire these at some good hire centres (and obviously jet washers..)

Don't use hoses or jet washers while up ladders. recipe for a disaster.

One other aspect to consider, should you look to use ladders etc is your liability insurances etc.

Anything 'off' the ground, is now covered by working at heights legislation and all that goes with it, especially if you expect employees to perform that task.

The boys to ask are the tree surgeons (Chris Auld for instance ?)

Having just been re-audited for SafeContractor & Exor EMS, I'm glad were are all ground based :-)

    Have a look at http://www.space-vac.co.uk/

I have seen a demo and it looked pretty good to me!

    also less messy than powerwashing....

  • Your right Gary, i dont think basic 'gardening' insurance would cover it. I hate cleaning out gutters with a ladder, it always feels very dangerous, anytime that i have done it i had someone holding the ladder for me too, i definatley wouldnt attempt it on my own.

  • Definitely would need to speak to your insurers, ours is covered under the window cleaning part of our policy.
Problem with power washing is that you would have to clean the windows afterwards; it makes a right mess.
Personally never used a gutter vac but I do know someone accidentally damaged some guttering when using one for the first time.

    alternatives ?

  • I'd imagine you'd get absolutely plastered from head to toe with muck + the walls/windows as well.......... I've done a few with a ladder but its a long way to fall with, unlike a tree, nothing to grab hold of!! I give them a miss now... it ain't worth it.
