Bark Chip quotation

I've got a customer who has requested bark chip for her new beds which measure aprox 108m2 (aprox 7 builders bags). I've been quoted £300 pounds from a local company and I'm just wondering, is this the right price to be paying?

I know it's relative and you may be quoted a much more in the south east I'd just like a general idea.

Thanks

Just make sure you know what you are getting product wise - Bark Mulch is very different to Woodchip...!

See here for a run down of differernt types: http://www.melcourt.co.uk/i-products.html

Cost for basic woodchip or composted woodchip ~ £30-40/m3, +vat + del rising for Amenity Bark, Spruce Nuggets etc

Commercially we are tied to use certain products (ie due to Specification), but away from that restrictions we generally use what suits the site, aesthetics and budget best.

  • Bark I pay £25.00 + vat Wood chip I pay £15.00 + vat full 1cube bags or loose delivery free if local

You are going to cover 108 mt sq with 7 bags that's 15.5 mt sq per bag seems very sparse to me.

  • It's a 65mm layer. If there is already bark down that's fine, if it's pretty bare I would tend to use 80mm or so.

  • Thanks folks for the advice and suggestions. Dan and lawn lover, the beds are currently soil so perhaps I will suggest to the customer that she may need more. I've had a few more quotes back today and they all seem to be in the same reigion. Gary RK thanks - I'll def be checking it out before I buy. Thanks JP, I'll bear that in mind, it's a tad cheaper than the prices I've been quoted down my neck of the woods.

  • Hi there, we us Melcourt as our local supplier is in big with them.

For us it works out a lot cheaper to buy it bagged in the 75 litre size bags by the complete full pallet as there seems to be the most discount that way.

It is also very clean on site over loose material, no shovelling off the floor or out of a bag, you can get lots more moved in a pre-bagged state aswell per barrowful.

For a product like Pine Mini Mulch which is quite expensive, but very nice to look at on domestic beds normally comes in at £6/m2 laid at 70mm thick plus VAT.

  • About the same price down here in sunny Sidcup, £49 per bulk bag inc. vat. Plus delivery.
