I own 2 TS410's and seeing that i can be bent over all day cutting i must say its the best saw on the market today for the balanced weight and anti vibration which gives you less fatigue
i have not heard anything about other faults but there was a design fault with the air filter cover and not being able to get the screws out to clean the air filter, my first saw 2 years ago has had a new petrol tank because the nuts what the screws go into started to turn round and round and you could not get the screws out in the normal way
it was replaced free of charge by Stihl because it happened in the first 12 months, if it happens after this period Stihl will charge for the replacing of the fuel tank
an example of why the TS410 is better then the TS400
if you put the TS400 on the paving it will start to spin round and round, the TS 410 will not move more than a few millimeters
even when you hold each saw in your hards and give it full revs you can feel the difference
I hung onto my old TS 400 until October last year just to use as a back up saw, when i got it out of my garage and started it for the first time in more than 14 months the vibration what you feel is unbelievable compared to the TS410
my hire company also don't like the TS410 saw either for some reason but they don't use themPro Gard said:
Its not a fault I am aware of and Stihl have not issued any Bulletins ref this type of problem but in reflection we see much more TS400's than TS410's in here and it does not mean that you are one of the very few to suffer a manufacturing defect.
As Pro Gard has said, I would photograph the crack prior to taking it to your local dealer or the company you purchased it from along with the proof of purchase as it will them who will have to carry out the repair if warranty can be obtained. I would then contact Stihl direct as a final resort if no outcome can be obtained. The arm is £85.48 + VAT alone before adding labour to the job so it would be ideal if you could get some good gesture from Stihl.
Hope this helps
