2nd Jobs or part/time jobs !

This maybe something you may or may not want to disclose. But there is a reason for me bringing this up.Do you have another job or income besides gardening/landscaping ?The reason i pointing this out is directly that it is a Physically demanding job, and can be hugely weather depending. Many of us, i have read being unable to work for 6 weeks in dec/jan/feb.Many of us are 'one man' bands , as so many in this industry are !is there a 'reason' for this? is there a major factor you need supplement income?i have mentioned a while back i have funded myself / my business, so freely admit without being specific.Pro -Gard (paul) does some property maintenance and Stuart i gather does some care-work.Sorry for naming names but my point, im sure will come out to satisfy.- Robin

I've just started up with garden maintenance services. I'm still employed as a vehicle accident assessor and hope to keep my foot in the door just enough so I can pick it up during the lean winter months.
  • thanks guys for your honesty . i feel many others will quickly reply to this .

ill tell you my views (which we all probably share anyway) later on.

I carry on with garden maintenance year round, employing 3 people.

My wife provides a useful 2nd income with a steady (salaried) job!
  • I did have a full time job when I started up but had to leave when I got busier - I think this is my 2nd yr of not working for someone else as well but its always an option if things get quiet at any point.
  • Robin where needs must! Still doing the N*P? I must admit once or twice I have considered getting a paid job for a month or two as during lean periods I feel a little guilty that the family suffer
  • Over the years I've been very lucky to be able to buy various properties from the gardening profits. So if times are hard I use the rental income to supplement my income but essentially they are part of my retirement plan.
  • When I have been slack in winter I have gone working on sites through agency's. Not want I want to do but as the only wage for our house its needs must and its better than rotting at home doing nothing.
  • N*T ??
