  • What it costs you at your tip, plus your time, plus costs?

I have a 2-hour round trip and minimum load is £24.00. Assuming it's not a load of heavy, wet grass, the minimum is all I pay. I factor in the trailer, bags etc. so add on a bit on top of that: no use needing to buy a new trailer then realising you never charged for it's costs!

I'd work on around £100 per load for a really full van and trailer, but that's a massive amount, probably a couple of days on a really overgrown hedge or something. I usually fill the trailer once every week or so with regular work (on my own), so most waste is just factored in with the per-job price.

      Hi Paul, thanks for that.

I'm in the Oldham area just outside Manchester and our local tip charge £48+ VAT for upto a tone, so even is I only tipped a bag of grass they still charge for a tone.

is there any where near me that I can tip for less?

      • That's why I store it up in the trailer at home, until there's enough to warrant a trip. I can squeeze about 6 builder's bags full in the van, and the trailer takes masses as you can compact it down.

If you do a search for trade waste sites on your postcode it'll show you them all, but most are around that price.

      • That is a mega price jesus go see a farmer or go to a skip company and ask if you can tip off may save you alot.

There are on this forum a list of waste sites. I think.

I try and encourage customers to compost or use green bins (organic waste) if I have to clear I charge the tip fee plus2 hours of my time plus travel expenses.it ain't cheap! I will bag up in to dumpies for those customers who have large cars. £5 deposit for the bag. And I have been known to go with the customer to the local domestic tip in their car, as commercial vehicles and trade waste are banned. This is rare (very) and only done for favourite customers.

Hi Andy, where can I find the list of waste sites
      • PRO
Too be honest as I'm doing this from my phone I'm not sure. I'm sure someone will patch on a link soon. If not I'll see if I can find it when I get home and can use a computer that I can type on using two fingers instead of the one!

That's exactly what I do, I have 2 1100 litre bins which take all my regular waste weekly. Then van and trailer load to a recycling place. I get charged around £25 per van and £15 for a 8x4 trailer +VAT
