Working the bank holiday?

Over the last couple of days I've received a couple of calls from my regular Monday customer's asking if they could miss this Monday. This got me thinking I could actually do with an easier day & spend some time with my family & do the jobs I've been promising to do.Normally I do work a bank holiday as a typical working day. What do you guys do?

  • working as usual, our plants need water in the Summer.

xmas day, boxing day and new years day off, as normal.

  • PRO
    I don't normally work them.
  • I don't acknowledge bank holidays; it's a chance to avoid traffic and just get on with work. Why would a client not want you to come on a bank holiday? Has the garden left and gone on holiday?

  • only work them if i really have to but normally off mondays anyway looking after my son.

  • Mondays are my 'One Off Job' day so no regular clients to worry about, Im happy to work a bank holiday if the client doesnt mind, but I if I fancy it I also like the time off to spend with the family.

  • I think being self employed and the summer dying out we can be a bit hard on ourselves regarding holiday. But some of us have families and want a break, I have a  couple of boys under 5, its hard to find the balance but I would not want to work overly hard to meet customer requirements when I could be doing something with my boys, but i know financial demands come into it as well....

  • As many bank holidays fall on a Monday I have arranged that most of my weekly lawn cuts are done every Monday. Therefor there is never a big problem when I take the Monday off. If I have not been able to work on the previous Monday due to some really bad weather then I will work on a bank holiday Monday.
I try not to though as for me it is a family time.i
  • thought bank holidays were for civil servants no way could we afford to take bank holidays

  • but monday my day for woodbrook eco vilage and we cant keep the grass down

  • i do what i want to do   (some folks have relatives/kids in garden)   so do it tuesday.

i cut lawns on a friday so they are all looking good for them to enjoy at the weekends.

if you miss a 'week' , the grass is longer and its harder/more fuel ,  you lose money and your schedual on a fortnightly basis !

-do what you like - others do ,  especially clients.
