Winches

I know you all are going to say that Tirfor's are the D's B's and I am very aware of that.

However has anybody experience of using a Draper winch - http://www.drapertools.com/b2c/b2citmdsp.pgm?pp_skmno=71208&ipadd=#!prettyPhoto - at 20% of the price of a new Tirfor and 50% of a used one they seem like a steal even though there is the old "too good to be true" argument.

* Note - I personally tent to steer away from Draper products as I have had bad experience with there quality and longevity, but I'm intrigued to learn peoples experience and opinions of this product.

  • A customer bought one online, I don't recall the name and it was a smaller bit of kit, but then only being use for a light weight job. a complete waste of time, but maybe the top spec ones are better.

I'm afraid I can't comment on the draper winch but I can talk about tirfors.

I purchased a TU16 for £48 complete with rope from someone who didn't know what it was. It is a fantastic piece of kit which we use to remove tree stumps with. Shear pins cost about £1 each (there are 3 to replace when they go) and we have only replaced them once (winching an oak tree out of a lake).

    Look out for bargains!

    Hi Jamie

Have a look at this post on a previous thread: http://www.landscapejuicenetwork.com/xn/detail/2074886:Comment:397800

It shows a small (but very good) winch I kept on my van. I used it for pulling out tree stumps, shrubs and hedges.
