  • it's expensive and a nightmare when it goes wrong!
  • I've suggested it to a few people, but they tend to go for natural Yorkstone or if on a budget, Indian sandstone. When people want utility they seem to have their mind set on budget concrete flags.

It could be that when people get magazines and brochure to make a choice from, or get ideas, that it doesnt feature - and as such comes as an also ran in their minds?

As a result perhaps designers have the same issue, or are guided by their clients suggestions?

  • I wish that someone would ask for it, my problem is that I would have to be up front and say that I haven't installed it before and believe it or not in Edinburgh I haven't seen it layed once therefore it would be difficult to sell without taking a client to see it in place.
  • In answer to your point,Rose i know you have had a un pleasant experience with a contractor in the past, but if a knowledge contractor installs resin bound surfacing there should be no problems with the surface.

For peoples peace of mind we always give a 5 year warranty

  • stuart there is a edinburgh  based company called greenscape, that has a picture of a resin bound tree pit on there site, might be worth a call to see if they have done any installations around the city.

Also you need to be looking around public buildings, monuments and around the university campus.Public areas are the first place to use resin surfacing the public see it then want it for themselves

  •  I think it is reasonably popular here, in the south.  We have three big areas to cover over the coming months, just waiting for dry weather/tarmac to cure.

have you thought of promoting it for indoor use?  Looks really good where I have seen it.

  • john you are absolutely right once people see how attractive  resin bound surfacingilooks they want that type of surfacing them selves,

so stuart in edingburgh needs to hunt out some to show his potential  customers.

  • the benefits of resin bound tree pits are the the soil or mulch or what ever does get kicked all over the place, the problem with grilles are they are very expensive, with resin bound gravel the tree is able to breathe and feed and mechanical machinery can clean right up to the tree

the tree pits we installed today had a proper base and tree ring allowing the tree to grow without distrubing the resin bound aggregate.

i guess the tree pits you are talking about are either quiet old or the contractor was given a bad specifcation or were installed correctly, resin bound aggregates installed correctly shouldnt crack but peel back as the tree grows

I saw some resin bound gravel around tree pits recently and the roots have all cracked them..was it a good idea in the first place???
