I suspect the prolonged coldness has taken its toll over winter and well into spring.
I havn't seen one in years. I used to find them hibernating in dense Leylandii hedges but not for a while now.
I have seen lot's this year in Somerset.
My broad beans are covered in them, they wiped out the blackfly and seemed to thrive, perhaps as the ground iss mulched 3 inch deep in hedge trimmings, so plenty of places for them to over winter. I imagine alot will have died in the very cold march weather.
I suspect the prolonged cold Spring may be to blame - I haven't changed anything else in my garden and usually there are loads. Buying in is an option - they would certainly have plenty of aphids to eat!
