When to remove mesh shrub guards ?

On a site we have just taken over, the developer has planted over a year ago ~ 100m of Hawthorn hedging (presumably using whips) and has protected the whips with mesh shrub guards, staked and tie-wrapped in.

 

Given the lenght of time I'm of the oppinion we should remove them now they hedge seems established. We dont have a major wildlife issue (no rabbits/hares, but small deers), so they really aren't needed..

 

Anyone have any guidance re: how long to leave these on, or should we remove?

    I normally leave for two years then remove
    it just protects the whips from wildlife and weather
