Weedkiller

Does a product exist, that would help me kill bindweed in an Elaeagnus and laurel hedge by painting it on, or my other idea was is they a binding agent I can mix with glyphosate to make it thicker. Thanks guys/ girls.

Is there not a bit of bindweed runnning along the grounnd you could put it on? A bit heath robinson but I've put some in a sandwhich bag and elastic band the bag to the bindweed before and it worked fine.

    • Grass underneath, chain link fence running through hedge aswell. Not an easy one. Thanks

there is a round up gel exactly for this purpose -- not very cost effective but easy to apply

    • Yes I've seen it before, but it's along length. Thanks

If you can manage a low-pressure spray without hitting the hedge (ie, clear stem) then a triclopyr base dspray would knock the bindweed and not kill the grass (as long as its well-established).

Failing that - weedwiper with glyphosate in to 'paint it on': HERE

Use a weed wiper and glyphosate to spot treat weeds in tricky areas. Ideal for when you don't want to use a knapsack sprayer - Fast UK delivery - Fre…
    • Cheers my thinking of making the mix thicker is to avoid it running off the leaf on to the hedge foliage. Would I still have that risk with what you've suggested there. Thanks

Not so much using the weedwiper but certainly a risk from spraying. A 'sticker' adjuvant not normally required or label recommended for triclopyr sprays as its already oil based in most cases. Thicker spray would not guarantee 'no drip' .... sorry might have to be a manual pull it out to get rid of the worst then a spot of painting on new shoots at the base.

        • Thanks for the advice, good to bear in mind for future ref

The way I have dealt with this problem in the past is to insert bamboo canes into the effected areas, when the bind weed grows up the canes I then weed kill the growth that has made its way Up them, place a tarp under for good measure, good luck
