Pay someone to do it. Check out mine:
www.nmgs.co.uk
www.slcontracts.net
The Web designer is Jason Colman at www.sographics.co.uk
I agree,
if you are confused about it, pay someone to do a good static website, with links to your profile and photos on here.-
Something has to change regularly for the search engines to find and keep updateing you, can be a blog, - but if you're already on here, - that will do the job
I forgot to add that I also used a professional content writer for www.slcontracts.net. This cost around £65 and made all the pages have the same sort of "feel" when browsing.
There are loads of different ways for you to do it.
To me the total no brainer is pay someone to do it for, but can work out costly.
You could start with a facebook page
Or another easy way is to use a website builder such as 1&1, you buy the domain and use their website builder, its easy peasie
http://www.1and1.co.uk
If you want to build one, i would suggest that you use a content management system
i.e.
Wordpress
Joomla
Durpal
ect
Wordpress is the easiest to pick up and use, but the real action is with Joomla. (I think this site is made from joomla)
we used http://www.webcontentwriter.co.uk/

my site is a wordpress site. They don;t have to be in blog format at all. A normal static site like mine is straightforward to do. If you want to have a look its www.sjsmithhomeandgarden.co.uk and was all done by myself over a weekend.
