We equip all of our staff with these: https://www.engelbert-strauss.co.uk/rain-jackets/functional-jacket-...
They last around 18-24 months, but probably longer if you paid for it yourself!
Personally, I've not found a breathable jacket that works for any length of time in our work. I tend to wear a small (water resistant) jacket for most of the winter with either a heavier, supposedly breathable jacket for colder weather, or a set of waterproofs for rain. The waterproofs cost £30 for head to ankle cover with some synthetic material that you could fish the North Sea in and stay dry! Looks naff but they've been out 2 days this week and have kept my clothes dry underneath.
Being a fisherman aswell as working outside, i have tried a plethora of waterproofs from budget price up to silly costs .... my advice is dont waste your money on branded stuff, unless you are wanting a particular colour/style. Army Surplus waterproof jackets are Goretex, will keep you dry and tough as old boots
I have used the ES Functional jacket mentioned above for the past 24 months and its still going well, particulalry this week! Have washed it once and look after it well. I Like the internal elasticated cuffs and zip pff hood for the drier days.
I purchased based on reviews on here 2 years ago, and would do so again when the time comes
I live in the West of Ireland & have become an authority on waterproofs. Good gear is expensive so ebay has to be your friend. For example I bought two of these for £70

Amazing value & a very high quality garment.
Another good value buy is Keela. You can get them at a good price on ebay. The "Double Protection" jackets, like the Keela Munro are superb.
But somedays here we can have serious rain & then only a Guy Cotten will do.
For all work clothing find what you want & then set up an ebay search. You will be emailed when a matching item is listed. For example I wear snickers trousers & Dewalt challenger boots but I never pay more than half the list price.
I’ve always used Englbert Strauss clothing as I’ve found it to be the perfect combination of comfortable and functional whilst providing a medium level durability (as a landscaper). The thing you need to think of as well is rain running off the coat and onto the top of your trousers/lap and kind of defeating the object of being waterproof so consider getting good water proof trousers which Englbert have a range of too.
The waterproof pants from ES are top!
being a fisherman myself i use my Trakker downpour trousers & top, lightweigth and well made, although good for a downpour id say prolonged rain and hard work would result in a lot of condensation like most out there. other than that when it buckets for an hour or so they are totally wind proof & water proof.
RAF goretex from eBay, £29.99 and I can stand out in anything and not get wet at all.
Top it off with a wax rain hat and you're good to go, still rubbish to work in though.
