I believe you should have one....it's weird that they are bothering to ask though

Where are you getting the waste from and where are you disposing of it?

They are bothering because the neighbours have complained.  I am taking it from customers to a recycling to a recycling plant.

You need a WTN no matter what you are transporting if doing for commercial gain.

Switched on clients are now demanding WTNs to cover themselves in case you fly tip....

Sounds like you need to be careful about your next move.

  • They've obviously got it in for you so make sure you do everything by the book as they're bound to dob you in it.  I had a neighbour who reported me for running a lawnmower repair business from my home..... even had a visit from the council.  True, I had repaired one lawnmower for another neighbour but certainly wasn't a repair business as the council quickly realised.

You said “recycling centre” if that was the local council household recycling centre you may have an issue, if it was a trade site and you have a receipt for payment just photograph it with your phone and email it to the council.

      • Depends how much of a jobs worth the council want to be, but John's right, if you go back to them asking for their advice, and armed with proof of where you are disposing the waste one would hope they will be sensible about it.

Technically you should have a waste carriers licence (even if its only a lower tier one) and keep a paperwork trail of how much, where and when....

What is the basis for the neighbours complaints? IE were you piling waste on the driveway in full view of the neighbourhood or generating smalls or sludge?

Obviously commercially generated waste should not be going to the domestic tip but to a commercial waste disposal facility.

Hi Andrew, I think I'm right in saying a waste transfer note is different to a waste carrier licence. A waste transfer note should be produced for each load of waste you carry, you can see examples of these online and then produce your own in triplicate. One for the customer (where the waste originated) one for the organisation where ever you are disposing of the waste and one for your own records.....but you also need a waste carrier licence to do this and the licence number should be on the transfer note.

I drove tippers many years ago and that's how it worked back then, maybe it's changed. I don't often carry waste but when I do that's the way I work and no one has ever told me differently.
