I would try a known good carb first and check the fuel tank breather.
I have tried opening the cap once warm but it made no difference. I cleaned the carb quite thoroughly today and replaced the diaphragms and gaskets. It is absolutely fine when cold, just bogs down when warm. Perhaps I need to "borrow" a coil and a carb?

When you say you cleaned the carb, did this include removing the metering needle (secured with a screw and a spring you have to be careful not to lose!), remove the mixture screws and then blow compressed air through the lot? It really does sound like a carb problem rather than the coil.
