what is the speed adjuster made of, i know the honda ones on the old HR models i have are all metal on the gearbox and get gummed up, couple of hours taking it apart and lubing it up again and they are like new again.

I've gone to Viking this year, after well over ten years with Hondas.
Let's be honest here? 7 years of commercial use is 7 times the warranty, which is the expected life Viking thought it worth covering. I don't think you're cutting your losses here, but should view it as having been incredibly lucky, and the mower's paid for itself many time over!
I am expecting one season from mine, and if it lasts a second year that's a bonus.
What I've done with the Hondas is replace them when the current one shows signs of trouble. Use the "limping" machine as a back-up, and when it fails sell it for spares. I don't think it's worth throwing money at a well-used mower: the likelihood is that if one major part fails, there's a long list of other parts about to break....
I think the biggest 6 series Viking roller has a b version, or maybe a .2 version that uses parts from the 7 series to help beef it up a bit. Because aren't the 6 series still technically classed as domestic machines?
I love my viking 755 anything bigger than a small postage stamp lawn I use the Viking
It does cut in the wet
Bought it 2nd hand 2 -3 years ago still running strong
Mine's the 655.2, with the blade-brake. They aren't called "pro", none of the Viking roller machines are.
I'll be delighted if it does anything over two years!
