Viking mower

Hi guysJust looking for some advice, I have a Viking mb 650 vs, it's 7years old! Spent just under £300 getting everything repaired serviced etc. the company replaced the cables aswell. However now the speed adjuster doesn't work and it's stuck on crawl mode! Went out and bought another one as there great machines. The company said it's very worn and there isn't slot they can do, thought they would have said before I spent loads to repair it!My question is, is it a easy fix I can do? Not hugely mechanically minded, or do I cut my loses and sell it? I have 2 other mowers now so would be used as a spare or free up some cash for new machines, what also would it be worth?

  • what is the speed adjuster made of, i know the honda ones on the old HR models i have are all metal on the gearbox and get gummed up, couple of hours taking it apart and lubing it up again and they are like new again.

as far as 2nd hand value goes ebay came up with this

  • Have a look on ebay theres 2 viking mowers going for £100 spares or repairs ones a mb650 might be worth stripping them down.
  • I've gone to Viking this year, after well over ten years with Hondas.

Let's be honest here? 7 years of commercial use is 7 times the warranty, which is the expected life Viking thought it worth covering. I don't think you're cutting your losses here, but should view it as having been incredibly lucky, and the mower's paid for itself many time over!

I am expecting one season from mine, and if it lasts a second year that's a bonus.

What I've done with the Hondas is replace them when the current one shows signs of trouble. Use the "limping" machine as a back-up, and when it fails sell it for spares. I don't think it's worth throwing money at a well-used mower: the likelihood is that if one major part fails, there's a long list of other parts about to break....

Paul what model did you go for? My old one wasn't a commerical Viking but a top of the range domestic and lasted 7 years of commerical, I'm speechless! My new one should last a few years at least. I like them as my main work is blocks of flats and domestic clients how let there grass go long and the Viking is faultless! Apart from being heavy. I also use a alko which has a Honda engine for smaller sites

I think the biggest 6 series Viking roller has a b version, or maybe a .2 version that uses parts from the 7 series to help beef it up a bit. Because aren't the 6 series still technically classed as domestic machines?

  • I love my viking 755 anything bigger than a small postage stamp lawn I use the Viking
It does cut in the wet
Bought it 2nd hand 2 -3 years ago still running strong

  • Mine's the 655.2, with the blade-brake. They aren't called "pro", none of the Viking roller machines are.

I'll be delighted if it does anything over two years!
