Van Stolen Edinburgh Based Company

HI all,

I had a vehicle stolen during Sunday night/early Monday morning from outside my property in Edinburgh.  Some equipment was in the van at the time.

The van was a white Ford Transit BT06 JVJ with 'Greenspace Landscapes' branding on all sides.

The major equipment stolen was:-

Kaaz/Danarm 21inch rear roller

Stihl BR600 Magnum

Echo Strimmer SRM 330ES

It was parked in a private car park and no forced entry was used. Police have been informed and have said it may of been an organised gang that came to Edinburgh, lifted and towed it away.  They've said I wasn't the only one targeted last night within Edinburgh.

I am fully insured and am sure things can get back to normal soon but did think it was wise to mention it so everyone else can keep an eye out and hopefully not have the same thing happen to them.

If anyone does come across anything that could be my machinery on the internet or sees my van abandoned somewhere, I'd be really grateful if you could contact me on 07549 490221

  • Gutted for you, sickening.

Had my van stolen end of last year, nothing but hassle even if/ when the insurance do pay out.

Will certainly be keeping an eye on my van.

Any distinguishing markings on the tools?

    I know your pain.

There are a number of tracking solutions from low cost, self install that cost <€100 + £5-10 pm ongoing costs to professionally installed trackers costing >£ 500 install & £3-400 life time subscription.

Real time tracking, like that used on courier vans are normally totally subscription based, ie you effectively hire the device and pay a monthly charge and you can follow van in real time, with lots of stats.

    Have experience of multuple types
  • Thanks for your replays.

Tracking will be a must on the next vehicle.  All tools were less than a year old. didn't put any tags or marks on the equipment, but will do for the rest of my equipment.

Do you have tracking on your vehicles Gary.  What companies are good to enquire with.

Happy to discuss offline/email for obvious reasons ;-)

As for tagging, go look at smart water or select DNA ( do search on LJN an you'll find more. Both approved by police who have detection equipment )
  • Thanks Gary will do

Hi Ruairidh, Im based in Dalkeith but travel alot round Edinburgh and Lothians will keep my ears and eyes open and let a couple of the second hand dealers a nod to watch out for your stolen gear
  • Hi Brian, my equipment is registered with Henderson's.  Usually the equipment is stored in our secured lock up. But our employees forget to put the equipment away that night due to finishing late, I do it on occasions myself if i work late, but you never think it will happen to you.

I let John Lord know who i think does some work for you, but it was just to let local firms in the area know what has happened and to spread the word.

  • PRO
Yeah good mates with John. I will let Ian and Stevie at Mowertec know and spread the word to the other guys around the area
  • Im sorry to hear that your gear was stolen I have be making some anti theft solutions for my own gear that i know to work i.e engraving all power and hand tools in several exposed and hidden places on different sections of your equipment that way its harder for the theives to fence the equipment and an idea for your van for a tracking devices is buy a low cost phone register it to yourself and business location make a note of the number for future reference, Please note the next section carefully...

You place the phone behind the dash were you cant just reach up and see it, somewere very well hidden, attached the car power lead to the phone and glue it into place so the phone will have permanent power and secure the phone and lead so it doesnt rattle around,  Remove the Cigeratte Lighter part lenthen the wire and attached a live feed to your battery or wire it into your live feed on your stereo power cable.

If your van ever gets stolen, Tell the police to track your mobile phone number and youl have a very accurate tracking device, i hope this can help everyone .

  • just curiosity but has anyone tried any of the techniques above ? in our industry ?
