Surely your van policy covers you in the event your van is unusable / drivable after an accident, ie claims management would have you recovered to a repairer?
We've gone to Tesco breakdown insurance as it means the van will get taken where WE want it and guys get taken home. Many policies have a 10-20 mile limit on recovery. Ok if you're local, not so good if you're a long way from home.
I have breakdown cover as standard with my insurance and when my clutch went last winter i had it towed straight to a garage of my choice within about an hour. It didn;t cost any extra but then of course there was no option to omit it so it was built in to the quote.
When i was knocked of my motorbike (and in an ambulance so could exactly get out the yellow pages) the police said they will arrange for the vehicle to be recovered if your fully comp, if not then they will just leave it to you.

specifically this sentence:
""Be aware that most companies do not provide recovery in the event of accidents or vandalism on their policies, but there are a few who do, so always check the small print to find out exactly what is covered.""
However of the major players I checked none provide this service ...so who does I wonder?
p.s. Tesco's do give a good discount on breakdown insurance for multiple vehicles :-)
We have van breakdown cover with Insurance Choice that also covers the trailer

£74 for Gold cover, that's everything
One further thing to consider is a trailer. My van was hit whilst parked, so a non-fault claim, but it was the trailer that took the impact. It popped off the towball, and punched through the rear tailgate. The van was driveable, but the trailer couldn't be attached again. My AA cover was unable to help, despite having had the cars covered with them for about 25 years. Through my van insurance I called the RAC, and the bloke tied the trailer to his van and towed it home following me.
I also found that the "replacement van" cover wasn't that great when they offered me a Clio van. I suggested they try to put all my gear in it if they considered it a suitable alternative! Since then I've paid slightly more for "equivalent" replacement vehicle cover....
We use Insurance Choice and have had four vehicles recovered this year...
I have had my worst year yet for breakdowns - ony if my vans was recovered 2 weeks ago and water was discovered in the fuel....tank drained, fuel system purged....argh!!!

I get recovery with green flag included in my bank account, £12.50 per month, u also get gadget insurance for 3 items and you dont need to tell them what your gadgets are until you claim, which is good, also i think travel insurance - not that i use that. its with yorkshire bank, the signature account. not sure if accident recovery in included, but as someone else said i guess your normal insurance kicks in then
I use Green Flag found them very good.
The AA who I am also with had a length exclusion on vans, which is why I took out Green Flag, I think they have now removed the exclusion but I am not sure.
