Usually hard enough to find insurance for a van for non-commercial purposes!
Alarm bells are ringing if they don't do commercial insurance check that you have business use for yourself specific to your trade not social , domestic and pleasure or you could well find that if you come to make a claim they decide your insurance is null and void.
Your certificate of insurance should state you are covered for use in your business.
even if you don't have to make a claim you might have trouble - an acquaintance was working as motorcycle courier, he had commercial cover for his small bike but was using his big bike for work - he got pulled by a traffic officer and given a producer for insurance he did not actually have (his big bike was not covered for courier work) the traffic cop could clearly see he was working and so it was a slam dunk - even if the man getting caught was 'slippery dave'
Sorry chaps , didn't finish post properly,as soon as I realised that they didn't cover commercial I cancelled the policy(obviously starting another first) .The company in question was LV just in case anyone else out there is in the same position.
Incidentally while looking for new insurance using comparison sites was quite appalled at even the cheapest quotes so rang the NFU who were £140 cheaper! Was about to take this price when one of the companies from the comparison sites rang and price matched the NFU offer and also threw in breakdown/homestart cover and protected no claims. Was wondering if Id told a white lie and knocked off £100 the NFU price would they have price matched that?
comparison sites are now a waste of time. they know the vast majotrity of people will use those and not bother picking up the phone to a broker, so they get you for taking the lazy option (even though you think its not after ploughing through god knows how many comparison sites)
