Using 'Frost' to control/kill weeds...

Much has been said recently on LJN about use of pesticides and weed control.

This one option developed / implemented in the USA - uses man made 'frost' to kill weeds.

Seems early days for it, as long term results are not yet available. I like the idea and I am sure something that may become maintstream if sucessful. I believe it is most effective on weeds in Warm season grasses.

Like many professional contractors we take our duty of care seriously and assess the best, most effective and least harmful solutions. We have to be trained (PA1 etc) and take advice from BASIS trained personnel.

For businesses involved in commercial work, pesticdes are still the most cost effective solution and often contractually required.

For those who enjoy working in residential gardens or have 'organic', 'Eco' leanings and do not wish to use pesticides etc - that is fine :-) I admire your beliefs, but I politely suggest you don't tear into those that do use it or do not follow your approach.

I have seen too much 'preaching' lately on LJN and it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. By all means let's discuss these options for us all to appreciate, learn and consider but in a fair and balanced manner without alienating a % of the membership......

  • Well it is CO2 so its not going to win many points from the Man-made climate change sector.

I would think its effective on most plants above ground tissue since freezing will cause the cells to rupture.

In terms of coverage, it would probably be easier to spray with glyphosate but it might be more handy for spot weeding.

I'm thinking that lugging the cylinders around might be a pain.

Its one of those things, you either really like it or you go straight back to the sliced bread.

  • Is it the same method as the spray dap that freezes off warts?
