Interesting developments on handling of investigation and subsequent report re: likelihood of Glyphosate being carcingenic in the US:
On May 4, Lamar Hunt, Chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy questioning the agency's handling of a report on glyphosate.
The letter is in reference to an EPA Cancer Assessment Review Committee (CARC) report, " Evaluation of the Carcingenic Potential of Glyphosate, which concludes that glyphosate is "not likely to be carcinogenic to humans."
The CARC communicated its findings in October 2015, but EPA never commented on the report. Further, EPA is now contending that the report is not final and that it was posted to the internet erroneously.
In his letter, Congressman Hunt states "The Committee has reviewed the CARC report and points out that it is clearly marked as a 'Final Report.' The report also contains the signatures of thirteen members of CARC.
However, EPA's removal of this report and the subsequent backtracking on its finality raises questions about the agency's motivation in providing a fair assessment of glyphosate – an assessment based on the scientific analysis conducted by CARC.
Furthermore, EPA's apparent mishandling of this report may shed light on larger systemic problems occurring at the agency."
