Tripod ladders

I thought i would show you all of a few pics of this new ladder i got. Its a 16ft high aluminium tripod ladder, very sturdy and can be used on slopes thanks to a telescopic third leg, its also extremley lightweight at only 21kg. Would definatley recommend it to anyone that does a lot of hedges/tree work. Got it from http://www.mowwithus.com

  • Let us know what you think after a season's use, be good to know how practical it is in use etc.
  • Nice. I've used a 10ft one for 1 season now, and it's been brilliant. Anything higher and I use ropes and a harness!
  • Blimey, i know they are supposed to be sturdy and stable but i would feel very vulnerable using the top few rungs, obviously not the actual top :-o

    your a brave man!

  • Blimey..brave indeed...so how do you work at the intermediate heights...by leaning off the side ?? My Henchman may be a bit more money a bit heavier and  take longer to put up but I'd like to see you being able lean out as far as you can reach from the waist with a long arm in your hands on that !!

    Good Luck

  • Its surprisingly stable Mark, the feet have claws on them so they dig into the ground, you couldn't tip this thing over if you wanted to! I have only used it on one job so far, and was only about 2/3 of the way up, obviously it would be a bit dangerous standing right on top.

  • I'm sure it's stable and probably a great piece of kit, I'm not trying to have a pop I just that I can't see it working for me..perhaps I don't understand how it works ? but surely the ladder is always in front of you where the hedge is you want to cut..so you then have to lean around the ladder to get a swing at the hedge ?? either that of the thing is sideways with you perched on the ladder ??

Anyroad it's good to invest in equipment to further your business.

    All the best

  • You can undo the chain if you want the splay wider. I have two tripod ladders a 6 foot and a 10 foot, which helps with different applications. The single front leg can be fed into many hedges to extra reach when doing the tops. If the hedges are taller, I just take my short strop, anchor into the hedge somewhere and get stuck in.
  • Recently used 3.6m version with x3 adjustable legs, gives you another 60cm so working height of over 5m.

Completely stable, light as a feather. Can adjust to suit slopes & cambers. Superb bit of kit and yes, front leg goes through hedging if needed.

  • I'd heard that these were really good and they were quite stable, do they break down for travelling with?
