Wrong bulb/ wattage/fitting is a common issue, or dirty pin on connector, or disconected wire to pin.
You can buy/hire a simple diagnostic plug - we have one like this
Failing that use a multimeter in line to check circuit / voltages etc
Has the trailer relay in the van been checked out /replaced?
I'm just runnig thru faults we've had02
As you've redone the truck socket, I'd suggest you trace the wires back from the socket to where they've been joined onto the trucks wiring. Sometimes they use these dodgy connectors called "scotchlock" which are notoriously unreliable. The relay should be fine as the indicator on the other side is ok.
Always hate to admit defeat on anything but you might have to take the truck down to one of those towbar fitting places............... they'll know exactly where the wire connections are made etc and can probably sort the problem in a few minutes and save you hours of ripping your hair out!.
You say trailer works fine on other vehicles, have you tried another trailer or light board on this vehicle. Very often it is just a bad connection on the vehicle socket. The truck beeper works to indicate trailer is on so it could just be a bad connection at the socket. Vehicle sockets are so troublesome as they are exposed to the grime of the roads. Tester like Gary suggests are good gadgets to have.
On a serious note I'd take it to an auto electric place and have them look at it and maybe start again!!
I'm struggling with mine at the moment too. Everything bar the side lights work for some reason but I've not really looked too far at it yet as I don't drive in the dark or even twilight as its always locked away by 3pm.
Our set up had a pin where 1/4 of it had broken off, this gave intermittent faults. And some pins needed opening up to create better connection. And WD40 helped too. We had a spare light board which worked fine but the one on the trailer appeared not to.
