on large lawns i use 70/30 mix or 60/40 mix , all depending on the profile of the rootzone or material under the lawn , never use compost or peat if the lawn is going to be one that drys out i will apply wetting agent granuals before applying the topdressing allow them to be brush in to the holes from been soild tining or hollow tining, if a lawn was in very poor condition and needed some more heavy material going back in to the ground you could jumbo hollow tine and use 50/50 rootzone on a good dry day .
Hi Robbie. You can buy purpose made top dressing which is a mixture of quality loam soil and horticultural sand. As Rich says, 70/30 or 60/40 are the usual mixes. We top dress many lawns and greens every year.
Any recommendations on where to get it from and price per tonne?
http://www.pitchcare.com/shop/top-dressing/index.html sell top dressing in bulk bags and also pallets of 25kg bags, more expensive than direct but handy for smaller jobs
