Marking tools is certainly a good idea but with sensible precautions, we can minimise the chance of having stuff stolen. We can't really expect our mp's/police to be able to do much..........they don't have enough police to even investigate household cromes let alone go round car boot sales. Fit "limpet" locks to the doors......... they're really secure and in the right position, will prevent a door being prised open or "peeled" back. I never leave expensive tools in a van overnight............... if you're parked in a "vulnerable" place during the day (even a Wickes etc carpark) use some extra security.................. I always put the "limpet" locks on........... if you haven't got them fitted, secure the vauable tools with a cable lock/chain. Put one of those stickers saying no tools left in the van overnight. Unfortunately, I live on a road where our traveller friends frequently pass and will nick anything given the chance...... with the extra security, never had a problem up to now.
Around our way, the police are quite willing to visit car boot sales, stop dodgy looking vehicles and investigate attempted or successful trade break-ins:

but agree the more you mark them up with products like SelectDNA or SmartWater or secure your Van or not leave tools onboard, the better off you'll be....
