Planning - planning - planning..... 15 mins a week with a hoe is quicker than 2 hours at the end of every month keeping a border weed free, little and often on shrubbery again keeps tidying time to a minimum - Mulch mow where the weather permits every time, saving waste removal and stopping to empty grass boxes. Can save 2-3 hours a week per man in my experience.
I went through 6 before i had him, he's ace :)

Got to agree with David on the mulching, I can't believe how much time I'm saving per job by mulching.

Great advice im paranoid i have 3 of most stuff, what happens if the spare breaks!
More on the business side;
Know your financials
Improve customer facing skills
Learn to sell or negotiate (esp for commercial)
Always be professional (from kit to personal presentation to quotes etc)
Establish the best working relationship possible with a dealer (or dealers) you can
Use the best possible tools (from software to machines to hand tools to vehicles)
Lead from the front (ie you set the set the standards for your business)
All those aspects can help run an efficient business. It's just not about how fast can I cut/plant X,Y,Z :-)
Take time out to think! Make use of a rainy day to look again at your maintenance schedules - they can ALWAYS do with a tweak. Get on the road before the school run!!
