Tippers...what do people recommend?

I'm looking at updating the vehicle to a tipper in the new year. i know transit tippers are probably known as industry standard, however i was wondering what peoples views on other make and models are..

I'm slightly favouring the looks of the new iveco at the moment..but does anyone have first hand experience with this make. or do you have other recommendations

Thank you

Matt

  • Hi
Always had Transit tippers, with the exception of a LDV (!!!!), and have found them OK. We have (may have)gone ever so slightly over the carrying capacity and they have always behaved well.
My only gripe is the height of the bed. When I'm struggling to lift mowers, logs etc on my own its quite high. I have noticed some other makes are a lot lower. saw a Vauxhall the other day that was about a foot lower.
The one thing to keep in mind when looking at tippers is the quoted capacity. We have a single wheel transit with a non tipping bed and a tool storage box between cab and ladder rack at the moment, the reason I went for a non tipper was the extra weight of the tipping mechanism.
This truck is 3300kg and we can only carry 700kg on the back (with 3 men in the cab) !!
With a tipper this would be down to 550kg.
I am led to understand that tippers are rated as a chassis cab and the load capacity has to take the rear body into account.

  • Hi Matt, ive been using an 07 Iveco Daily 35C15 crewcab tripper for the last 2 years and im very impressed with it. Its reliable, powerful, practical and easy to drive, the only downside being poor fuel economy, I reckon I get around 20mpg when empty and maybe only 15mpg fully loaded with the chipper. However this is a price im willing to pay. The Iveco is a heavier and stronger truck than the transit, however ive heard the transits are slightly better on fuel economy. You can easily gross 6000kg with this vehicle, not that I ever would of course ;)

  • thats great thank you for the advice.. I think it is going to be a toss up between the transit and the daily..

  • We have a transit tipper with 130k miles on it and it runs with no problems. It has no problem with big loads either. Although we have a panel van too I can never imagine being without a tipper!
  • transit
mine weighs in empty at 2.1t and can take what ever load is thrown at it
the things to get would be electric windows and heated front screen
fuel economy is not great low 20's (125ps engine)

  • I've a tranny 350-90 she's 3 ton empty , I usually put 2 in it making it 5ton has never ever left me down!
