What height is the Fence, and what sort of spread do you want?
  • its for a client and he doesn't want roses but already has Pyracantha opposite where the trellis is and wants something with colour, thorns and evergreen. Grrr! My head hurts! lol

I can think of a few shrubs good for intruder proof hegdes but if it's a climber then all I can think of is Pyracanthus or Berberis. Both can be trained up fences and over/thru trellis. Berberis can be either decideuous or evergreen.

Look for something like an evergreen Berberis linearifolia 'Orange King' which reaches 2.5m+
  • Orange king, Brilliant!, i will have a look cheers

Other stockists may have specimen shrubs of larger sizes
  • Pyracanpha is a good idea. Pyrancanpha acts as a burglar deterent so to have it as a climber on a fence is a good idea. Also it has white flowers and red berries so you get colour at certain times in the year.
