  • Some gardens I wear a mask to protect myself.

  • I don't use a blower for that very reason as well as the intrusive noise. I use a rake to collect the leaves and a stiff brush to sweep any debris.

So on a dry windy day i'm pretty sure the wind does the same? Leaf blowers have their place. Unfortunately they are sometimes over used or used inappropriately.

If you want to be very picky then anything which causes a disturbance to the air as it works has the potential to kick up all of these things.
  • I have used blowers for years when I worked for the National Trust. Yes there's a place for them but they are over used in my opinion.

The difference between gusts of wind blowing airborne particles in the air and an operator using a blower is that the blower is creating a smaller and denser 'environment' of air borne particles as the nozzle is aim directly at the ground thus creating a vortex of debris directly in front of the operator. Yes a mask does protect you to a certain extent. That's why operators should be cautious of using blowers in certain situations.

The only masks worth using would be ones with filters which can be changed. The white disposable ones are only good for short periods
