Thieves trying it on...

Sat in the Van, having my morning Cream tea and scones as you do, and left my blower sitting by the front of the van, out of the corner of my eye I see someone walk onto drive and go to pick up my blower, needless to say I was quick to act and if it wasn't for the fact I didn't want to spill my tea, I'd have caught the bugger. The bloody cheekiness of some people, I didn't leave the site to chase as I had more tools out and wasn't sure if this was a scam to get me away from van. I have reported it to the Police and will have to leave it to them but will be taking no chances with machines being left unattended at any time. This has happened in Camberly area, so keep an eye on your tools anyone working in the area.

Oh how true. Last year my aunts gardener over near Sandy Bedfordshire left his van unlocked near the house at the end of a very very long drive, he was "outback" when he returned the van was empty. Lock it or loose it folks!

Yep, Andy I've heard of this happening a lot , this is the first time that I've actually seen though just how they really don't care who's about...

No mate, didn't get the blower, I was just there, as soon as I shouted a few choice words the guy threw it too the ground and legged it up the road, sooo lucky.

It always amazes me how these people do things in broad daylight with people around.
Glad he did not get it mate:-)
  • Well done Harry!

We had our truck parked up in front of the garage in a rear garden of a corner house. I was working passenger side of the truck, when it suddenly started up and zoomed up the road!  He was stopped trying to get out of Southend (there's only a couple of roads out!) He was just 16 and apparently it is common for young lads to be given the train fare out of London into the suburbs and 50quid to walk the streets looking for trucks where some 'mug' has left his keys in the ignition.  Unbelievably, the police said there would be a farm somewhere with a few containers and our dear old truck was probably destined for Africa - maybe to be used as a machine gun carrier!

That is insane Colin, this bloke didn't look much past that age.
  • What did I tell you about working on my patch after the last incident!! :-)

But seriously I have had this happen a few times in Camberely, once the buggers lifted a mower out of the van whilst the lads were lifting the second mower to get around the van to load up.  Police did nothing other than to speak to the registered car owner who just so happened to of lent his car to someone but couldn't recall his name.

It's a sad indictment of society that you can’t even leave a tool outside your van and in eye shot without some chancier taking it.  I blame the lack of interest from the police and the CPS that they know the chances of getting seriously punished is Nil. Worst part is that they would probably sell the gear on for pennies in the pound and there are plenty of people (including a few gardeners I know) who would be more than happy to get a bargain and not to care that this impacts a persons’ livelihood.
