The lawn treatment people

I wondered how many of the maintenance guys on here have had a run in with lawn treatment companies , no names but I'm sure you know Who I'm on about !.

Had another row with a local one this week .

I turn up to do the garden and customer says I can't cut grass cos the guy has treated it . This happens a lot !!

Goes to another job the next day and as I'm finishing. Samelawn guy turns up . I says sarcastically you cant' treat it cos I've cut it !! . He says oh dont' worry about that it'l be fine !!! I won't  go into any detail about my comments to him !.

A large franchise did this to my customers lawn (that was pretty thatchy before) over the winter.

May I ask, how on earth did they do this? Any idea?

That photo hurts so much. We get it looking good then the client invites cowboys to do that rather than yourself

        I sympathise

It was a pretty thatchy lawn and I had been working on the client for a few months to do something about it, but for whatever reason he decided to use greenthumb? It's very frustrating but I am going to fix it, however its gunna work out way more expensive than if it was done correctly. They scarified in mid-Jan during a frost and by the looks of it also went as low as they could with their machine.

  • I've managed to avoid clashing schedules with them but I do have a couple of treated lawns that grow twice as fast as the untreated lawns. Harder to cut when wet, more waste etc.etc. They do tend to load 'em up with chemicals.

  • It doesn't sound like he's doing anything wrong though. If anything it's your customer's fault for not letting you know and making another arrangement. And generally you can treat a cut lawn but not vice versa.

    • And yet he gives them the usual spiel of ' shouldn't be cut 3 days before or after ' . .

    • I'd say true if they are doing weeds, extended to 7-10 days actually.

Most fertiliser manufacturers advise waiting for 2-3 days after application before cutting. It's to do with picking the granules back up by accident and affecting the results of the treatment.

If you are mulch mowing then there is no problem as the granules will be deposited straight back on to the lawn. In that case, you can cut whenever you like. Cutting before a treatment is absolutely fine regardless of whether you are collecting or mulching the clippings.

If you check up on certain lawn treatment company’s twitter feed, it seems it’s not unusual to see complaints - they seem to be hammered at the moment with quality, poor scarifying, time of year etc.

I guess some franchise operators care more for what they do then others ......

Do they make claims they can’t support....
