Thatchy/brown looking lawn

Hi,

I have a few customers with a similar problem.  Their lawns are looking quite thatchy in places and I don't know why?

They were scarified in Autumn,  Hollow Tine aerated in Spring and had fertiliser and selective herbicide treatments.

I initially thought it might be red thread or maybe root rot (due to wet, warm conditions) but am not so sure.

Pics attached including a cross-section one.

Any advice welcome.

Nothing immediately wrong but when you zoom right into the cross section there are a few black spots which could be some Anthracnose - a stress reaction to the aeration & herbicide coupled with damp, mild mornings ?

Plus the thatch does look a bit slimy which is more of a concern if widespread.... First option if this fungus loving weather carries on is a seaweed based tonic for stress relief (for the grass, not you....)
