Well quick update just for reference..as the Tanaka's run a 25-1 mix I thought the exhaust might have coked up a bit so popped it off the long arm and gave it a good blasting with a blow torch until it was burning quiet nicely, a blow through on the air line and it seems to have cured it running really well now ;-)
Cheers
Mark
I like to service my own tools if I can, I'm no numpty with a spanner and so far with the bikes, cars, vans and garden equipment I've got by ok..the only reason I posted this up to start with was to help me but also maybe help anyone else that does a search to try and cure problems that they may have.
TBH I also can't see the point in me paying some bloke in a shop twice what I earn to do something that I can do...the cutters have still been working so I haven't lost work, I've replaced one but as that works out it gives me plenty of time to fix it and helps keep at least part of my tool base younger which I'm happy to do, the long arm is for all intents and purposes now fixed I did a full day with it with a monster Leylandii and it flew through it with the extension bar fitted...
Wouldn't be much help for people looking for advice if the block answer is take it to your dealer ?
The exhaust has coked up again so my burning trick proved a short term fix but at least help me diagnose the problem..a new exhaust has recently been fitted and it has restored the machine to it's good as new self, I'll order one up for my TPH2520S and either flog it on or keep as a spare...so anyone with a Tanaka hedgecutter a few years old if it starts loosing power don't necassarily thinks it's dead, the engines seem pretty bullet proof, it may just be the exhaust is clogged because of the rich mixture these things run on.
Tanaka run on standard 50:1 mix.
My dealer stated 25:1 the manual says 25:1 to 50:1..another dealer also stated the same 25:1, I'm happy to run whatever is best for the machine ?
Nick.
Yeah I've just googled and from what I can see from that Semi Synth can run 50:1any other 25:1, although in the states 25:1 unless California which is 50:1.....First dealer supplied Morris oils..the other that recommended 25:1 supplied Sthil oils, I run Sthil Red but may now look at others...? I'm also going to phone a few others to get more info on what the company line is !
Would be handy to run 50:1 as I'm carrying a seperate can for the Trimmers at 25:1 ;-)
