Nice to see the coppers doing something useful for a change!
Good to see Police continuing to target dangerous loads - begs the question...Do you know what you can carry and stay within the law ?
@SurreyRoadCops#M25 overweight, prohibited, driver said it wasn't because he could fit it in. Can't see properly either tints 2 dark pic.twitter.com/D1rKcOiOeoI know the capacities of all of our vehicles and trailers but it can be very difficult to tell with loose loads.
What methods do others employ to ensure that your loads are within the legal limit?
I would have thought that the Ranger in the pic would be able to carry approx 1100kg in the back (I stand to be corrected I'm sure!). Was he pulled over because of the tints and then taken to a weigh-bridge?
It is hard to guesstimate what you can carry (-and made worse it wet weather ) as there are not many free public weigh bridges around. Occasionally if taking waste to local transfer station I'll use opportunity to review and visualise what went thru on the scales.
My l200 double cab is good for 900kg one up ( I hope ) :o

Its hard to work it out though, we had the van loaded up with fencing materials at the weekend and the panels were very wet, I bet we were close to our limit!
And now Hampshire Road Policing Unit gets in on the act :-)...clear what the New Year message is.....
@HantsPolRoads 3:36 PM - 8 Jan 14Operation today with VOSA at Junction2 M27. 33 light commercial vehicles stopped. 24 had at least one offence - documents and con and use.
VOSA are not just your area Gary....
Got pulled into a temporary VOSA checkpoint this morning, that had been set up in an industrial estate just a short way of the main A16 through route that joins Spalding to neighboring towns - EVERY light commercial vehicle was getting pulled in and getting a good look over by the VOSA men.
Van got given a check over (lights, tyres, tax etc), waste carriers licence got checked and waved out again...
Hopefully we will see more of this kind of proactive checking - certainly sounds like there is a big 'push' on it nationwide at the moment!
No action taken - they were not over loaded but did add 40 minutes to their day :(
They were pulling all commercials over, regardless. This was in Denham (A40) near to junction 1 of M25.
They didn't check anything other than weight. They didn't look inside the van or look for waste carrier certs or dip the tank for red diesel....not that we have anything to worry about of course!
