Summer swarms, how do you cope with them?

Suddenly they are everywhere, particularly swarming around trees and hosepipes flattening and breaking plants and digging holes, At work they fiddle with your tools and ask questions and keep touching cement so they have to wash their hands. In a design you have to leave a space for them and at work you do not want to crush their interest but you need to get on and keep them safe.
