Stand by your price for the work as they will try to get you to do it as cheap as possible to increase their profit they don't care if you make a loss or not. Make sure they are covered under their insurance to employ sub contractors as if they are not it could lead to trouble if anything goes wrong.
Dont put all of your eggs in one basket - they could drop you like a brick at any time. An old customer of mine, who was a very successful business man, gave me this advice when I gained my first large contract - 'never let one customer become more than 25% of your turnover'
Ensure you have strict payment terms in place or you could find yourself waiting months to get paid. Also ensure you have the right insurances in place to cover working as a subcontractor.
If part of the contract involves schools or nursing homes be aware you will need to have all of your staff CRB checked.
You may also be required to be CHAS registered and other forms of certificates.
These all cost time and money to arrange so check on what is needed before tendering as these costs need to be built in.
As Boyd says stick to your price there is no point in doing a job if you are not making money
Thanks for all points we should be aware of, I am in position now where I would need support how to please this big company, and how to complete a pre-qualification questionnaire, we have only been contacted by them and still filling in all provided forms and preparing requested documentation, I need to know what are minimum needs to meet their needs and to comply for at least beginning stage to work. What licensed should we hold to start what insurances and etc. as this questionnaire covers maintenance, contraction and other very different types of services. We are only willing to work on Grounds maintenance contracts, no tree work, no construction or other services.
Many thanks for your time and advice.
Much appreciated!
Ramunas
