Stihl Kombi maintenance

Hi all,

Couple of quick queries. Does anyone know how to replace the fuel filters on Kombis? Got three different models KM100, KM90 and KM56.

The 56 is slightly different but essentially the problem is the same on all three. The fuel pipes don't appear long enough to allow the filter to be hooked out of the fuel tank to allow replacement. Anyone know the best way to do it?

Also, need to replace the starter pull cord on the KM56. Have taken the starter section off but it's not obvious how to disassemble the unit. Any ideas?

Cheers

  • Hi Andy

On my km100 and km130 to get access to the fuel filter you need to first take off the air filter and then take off the carburettor whilst disconnecting all the fuel and air intake pipes and then you'll have access to the fuel tank. Where the pipes go into the fuel tank you should have a little housing with a tab on it. You will have to remove this grommet which in turn will pull out the fuel filter. Just be very gentle with the tab though I've broken two and then just had to pull the grommet out and then needs replacing as well. If you send me a message with your email address have got a service PDF for the Komi engines goes through everything.

  • Thanks Paul,

Can't see the central screw at the mo. Maybe different on the other engines but on the KM56 once the rear plate with the starter section on it has been removed there is the nylon rotor which has a small orange disc in the centre. I'm guessing this hides the screw. There is a what appear to be a clip around this but haven't been able to remove this. Will keep trying anyway.

    Thanks again for the info.
