Prevents you strimming your foot off as it acts as a barrier from the attachment getting too close to you.
Removing it invalidates the warranty as well. (although nothing stopping you from keeping hold of it and putting it back on again if there is a warranty claim)

Do you mean the tube between the harness attachment/carry ring thing and the loop handle? Because that isn't fixed on mine so you can't really use it to hold it as it'll spin in your hand.
Might be A/V doesn't seem to have any other use.

If the barrier bar is a safety aid, and considered essential, why is it only set up for right-handed users?
