  • Also, any fruit or vegetable you've grown yourself and eaten straight away. If you have trouble growing spinach try New Zealand spinach - withstands dry weather and grows like the clappers.

We have a matstone juicer, a bit slow but it makes very good for you drinks, my favourite is: 1apple - 2beetroot and 4carrots. ......and if you already make your own juice do try 3 drops of cream in a glass of carrot juice - mmm. My Mum would juice through a sack of carrots a fortnight when we were small but stopped because of pesticides.
  • Brilliant stuff, my wife is a nutritionist, I never imagined that she could have a role within this industry.

I'll ask her to put someting togerher and I'll post it on LJN - maybe she should do a seminar at the Hard Landscaping Show? Sorry for the plug........
  • In our household we believe in a good healthy balanced diet - we cook from 1st principles so no processed or ready made 'meals' for us. Mrs B even bakes all our own bread & cakes especially for me. And we always eat more than the recommended 5 portions of fruit & veg a day - all the 'usuals' plus my caribbean favourites - sweet potatoes, yam, okra, plantain, dasheen, chouchou, etc. That way my regular tipple of wine and cognac and self-confessed weakness for snicker bars are well compensated for!

Being a good Jamaican boy carrot juice is a staple at all family events. We have 2 versions. Both contain condensed milk (yes really!) and the 'adult' version has rum too. No prizes for guessing which tends to be the most popular! Nothing like a carrot juice to go with my curried goat!

Whatever we do it must work as people never believe my real age & always put me at least 15 years younger! Work hard, play hard, enjoy everything you eat/drink & you'll be fine...

  • ...became so hungry after reading about your goat curry and rum laced carrot juice that I've had to go out and get ingredients for my first crack at Jamaican food. Chicken and peppers with allspice and cumin...and curry powder(!) Is there a special Jamaican curry powder? Sorry, should not probably be posting non garden talk on this site! Anyway any recipes gratefully received. Thanks. Ben
