Solution for ugly pipe

Any one have any ideas for how to cover up this ugly pipe.

The pipe access needs to be maintained as it leads to the stop cock.  Standard size soil pipe fittings are to large. The pipe as you can see is old and would have been an imperial standard.  Personally I think that because its behind the garden gate nobody's even noticing it but the client obviously sees it as an eyesore.

Thanks

grind it down and place a cutting of a slab in there but no pointing,

it will match in with the rest of the patio and can be removed when needed and is very little work or exspence to do it

    • From the pic it looks like the top of the pipe is flush with the pavers.  How about covering with a small square of paper (or whatever is available) and stand a pot or an ornament on it or just an ornament or pot directly over the top ?
  • Hi Jackie

Why not a knome (or similar)? Or stuff a cobble in it and cover with a pot? If it needs to be accessible then I wouldn't go to too much trouble covering it up. Time could be of the essence in an emergency. But...of course if it's really bothering the client and they want it all ship shape and Bristol...just looks simple from here but you know your client.

    Twickers for you this 6Nations?

    Regards

    Helen

    • Hi Helen

Clients a bit tricky and I should have said its behind the gate so the gnome or container isn't a practical option.  We already covered it with a lose matching piece of paving which is what she had originally agreed to. Know she is not happy and I trying to find a simple solution that doesn't mean having to disturb the surrounding paving.

I have tickets for the big game England v France thought my friend hadn't been able to get them, only found out this morning.  Yippee.

Looks like you need a giant bath plug that will pull up easily in an emergency...but haven't a clue where you'd get one. Good luck with it.

Fabtastic news for you about the 6 Nations tix. It's along shot but Jungle just might get them...he normally quite good at pulling rabbits out of bags.

        Best.

        • LOL may be you need to climb up the beanstalk and see if the giant has a spare!
  • No not entirely true, and I must defend my crew for something that wasn't there fault.   We were not aware of the pipe before work commenced it was discovered during the build.

The options were discussed with the client who not want to pay for extra time to do what you and many other have suggested, the client did not think the pipe was that big a deal.   This is where the mistake was made and it was entirely mine as I suggested we could cap it off with a standard socket/plug cap that would cover up the un slightly elements around the pipe, what I hadn't appreciated was that the internal aperture was no longer standard and therefore I cannot obtain a cap that fits.  My team always work to my instructions but on this occasion I messed up and I now trying to find a workable cost effective solution for my wallet and the client.

  • Hi Gary

I'm sure Jackie will read this and see you just got the name wrong...the original post was by her not me.

    I agree with Gary

disregarding the fact it was not seen in the first place you can't just leave it open or leave a piece of loose flag on top when all it needed was a100mm supersleve blanking plug at a cost of just over £3.00

example below and 2 builders merchants who stock them

    http://www.burdens.co.uk/product/100mm-supersleve-ss89-internal-bla...

you might have to tidy the top of the pipe up with an angle grinder as it looks a bit up and down and then push the plug inside the pipe

    good luck :)

    NOTE

I must add this is not how I would of left it, I am advising you of an easy way to get over your problem

  • I'm with Paul on this. We wouldn't have left it like that either. It wouldn't have taken much time to have done it correctly in the first place. The issue now is that you've gone from a potentially delighted client to an unsatisfied one who unfortunately will focus on this rather than enjoying their new patio. Hope you get it sorted to everyones satisfaction. We'd suggest a small gift for your customer e.g. a plant when it's fixed - that will leave a 'magic moment'.
