Soil screener

Hello,Just wondered if anyone could advise doing a lot of turf jobs and artificial turf starting to wonder how easy it would be to screen the remnants? Rather than putting them in a heap to compost down.So I've been searching Ebay looking at designs and saw a way of converting an old petrol cement mixer to screen the soil would the soil seperate off the turf once it's all dry.

Sounds like a lot of hassle to me. Unless you have a use for the soil. I would be getting a skip in.
    • well was thinking i could use the soil for future turfing jobs and raised beds saves buying it in?

It's not worth it I don't think as I can buy for £6 a tonne and it gets loaded into trailer I could not shovel a tonne in £6 worth of time.
        • Just wanted to get rid of some of it haha I can get access to a loader tractor. Just wanted to keep the costs of skips and buying top soil down shame.

If you've got access to a loader and you've got the tipper truck and somewhere to store it do it even if you never use it you could pile it up and get a grab Lorry to come and take 20 tonne at a time. Still charge a decent price for taking away in the first place (as close to a skip price as you can )and it will only cost you a bit to get shot of it.
            • Right no worries I'll no bother just stack it high haha

The other thing to think about is if your leaving in a field is how many weed seeds end up in it?
                • Weeds and seed in the screened soil? Won't be much as I've got massive concrete hard standing I store materials on its an old barn concrete base going To build bays in the summer for materials

I thought you were just going to stack up the turf and soil together that's what it sounded like. And even screened soil will end up with stuff growing unless it's stored dry I would think
                    • The field is 3 acres the barn hard standing is massive. The old turf and soil is stored on the grassed area
