Social Networking - Cheat Sheet

After a meeting with a local PR business, I thought the attached sheet was useful to share.. There's been a lot said about this topic - from one extreme to the other. Whether you subscribe to this trend or not, the following is useful to understand basic terms etc (well I found it useful !!!!). It covers Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Thanks for sharing that Gary. I've started regularly Tweeting and am looking into joining Linkdln and the tips are useful.
  • thanks Gary, - that's a good information sheet, -
Paul, what's your Twitter handle? - i'm trying to follow those I know through landscape juice, - i'm Plantpassion.

i'm on Linked in as well, but don't find that as useful as i'm not good at being corporate.

  • You can waste a lot of energy reading trivia and networking on facebook and the like only to find yourself fending off endless life insurance salesmen and the like.
Stick to what is important, delivering for your customers.
If you need to tweet, twitter, gossip or yarn, leave it until the evening.
  • Gary, thanks for sharing this. I'm still undecided about the value of social networking versus the time it takes to maintain an effective online presence but I'm definitly starting to waver!
    All best,

    Hi Dave,

Me too, I've said before I believe this is still to mature as a business tool.

I believe there a large number of 'early adopters' who are willing to put the time and effort into the current products. What level of business they derive from this is variable, depending on their marketplace. I also wonder how much time is consumed by these technolgies Vs the income they produce.

What is clear is that future developements in this space will fundementally change the way we do business. I guess it's a case of when do you step in and participate ?

  • Gary,
Agree completely. My strategy for now is one of watching and learning. That's why your cheat sheet was so enlightening - it helps build that picture of what's actually involved. My main concern is that you spread yourself mightily thin if you try to keep them all going unless there's a way to link them all together and make postings cohesive. That bit I haven't managed to fathom yet!

It's a well laid out starter document for anyone who's unsure...thanks for posting Gary.

I am still a little unsure how everything hangs together and interlinks but keep trying, I am off to a free marketing course today being held by NABO. This seems to be a reincarnation of Successtrack, whos' course I attended earlier this year.
Some of the Successtrack stuff was useful but one or two paticularly stupid statements they made undermined confidence in their product (a weekend training course). I strongly suspect todays offering is a sales pitch for another course but will wait and see.
