Slow release plant and tree food, recommendations

I was about to order some but got a shock at the latest prices so I thought I’d pick the brains of the good folk on this forum.12 month release is preferable and obviously in solid form or it just gets washed out of the planters.Thanks in advance for any suggestions.Rich
