Hi I would say minimum 21 inch or even a small ride-on
Disagree with Billybop, think either would do. It's always difficult to tell from a photo, but guesstimate would be around 30 minutes to mow and assuming you want stripes? . The Hayter 48 has either fixed or variable speed models whereas the Honda is fixed speed and is painfully slow ! The Hayter 48 fixed speed version is too fast, speaking from experience of both !
If you want to splash out buy a Hayter 56 pro, we have run these since the new model came out a few years ago and are mowing around 10k sq mts per week they have been totally reliable and although a bit on the heavy side which should not be an issue on that lawn .
Hope that helps
Whether an 47/48cm mower is big enough to do your lawn is simply down to whether you want to spend longer cutting it each time. If you are happy to take 10 or so more minutes cutting your grass, then the 47/48cm mower should be sufficient, albeit with narrower stripes. FYI- I cut one about 3 times this size with my 48cm mulch mower.
If I was in that situation, and was not going to employ a gardener, I would buy a robot mower. It appears to be an ideal garden for that.
I would not consider mowing this with a hand mower. I would recommend a ride on machine and if this is just for your own grass as in the picture, then you need not spend a fortune on a machine. I would think that, with dealer discount, you could get a domestic spec 2wd Stiga out front mulching mower for roughly £3k. It makes the job far easier and more enjoyable. It also encourages you to cut more often, as it is much less of a chore. Double cutting, which is a must really, is also far easier.
I'd agree with the Ride On Mulch Mower or possibly a Robo Mower and then a back up walk behind Mulch Mower
Go for 21 ich mowers will be quicker time approximately 30/40mins a ride on would be ridiculous.
3 close board bays 6 metres, 11 by 9, 1.8 metres chainlink fence 418 metres square approximately.
I'm with you, suggestions of ride ons and robot mowers to cut a modest domestic lawn at around 30 minutes seem to be total overkill and unnecessary expense.
I wouldn't rule out robo mowers they are the present and the future. Speaking to my dealer recently they sell more robo mowers than conventional.
Don’t tell me that my suggestions are ridiculous. I’ve been doing this work for 39 years. Disagree with my assessment by all means, make the argument, but do not shoot other opinions down.
To me using hand mowers anywhere other than restricted access is inefficient, time consuming and physically much harder, but I would not tell you it’s ridiculous.
It is likely that if someone is buying what appears to be a sizable property like this that they will be there for many years to come, so therefore making a long term investment in a machine that will make mowing much faster, much less of a chore for someone who is not in our industry, not earning whist mowing and maybe does not want the extra work, makes good sense. The lawn looks to me to be really quite large. It’s not as if a good hand mower is a cheap option.
