Shredding leaves with Stihl SH-86 Ce

Recently bought one of these, only used the blower at work but yesterday attached the vacuum to test it out in my garden.  I hoovered up a pile of oak leaves that were pretty dry however when I emptied the bag they were barely shredded at all.  Then tried it on some grape vine leaves and these shredded into tiny pieces.  Just wondering if there's a reason why it struggled to shred the oak leaves?, only reason I could think is that they are relatively a small leaf compared to say a Sycamore and other tree species.

Never had a blower/vacuum before so would grately appreciate any answers.

  • You're quite right.... they're too small and light so they just go straight through into the bag.  Same as the mower...... the big leaves on the lawn get shredded, the small ones aren't touched.
