Shredders

I need to recommend a shredder for a client. I will be the only one using it & it will only be for light work.  I am thinking electric but wary of cheaper domestic brands especially if the blades are replaceable.

Has anyone used a Viking ?

  • I steer clear of recommending equipment to customers, unless they are looking to buy top commercial gear.

    • So would I but this is an exception.

  • I will probably go for a Viking Electric. It won't have much work to & it's mainly light shredding rather than chipping.  I like that the Viking's blades are easy to replace.

  • Not used a Viking myself but I would certainly go for a petrol one myself. Maybe a good secondhand one from the likes of Bearcut, Elliet and so forth.
    • They are chippers, not shredders. I want something that will handle general garden clippings.  Plus they are huge & at least 10 times the price.  It's only going to be for the waste of one garden

      • If you look at Bearcat many of them do both. I have an 8hp Bearcat which has a chipping chute and shredding chute.

Shredding chute has replacable screens, so at the moment it has a smaller hole diameter screen, great for more woody materials, swap the screen over for a a larger holed version and it shreds very well - privet, laurel etc.
