I use both.
My main selective is Relay , it does a good job and as you say is half the price.
Very good on dandelions, daisies, plantains , creeping buttercup.
I find it is not effective on speedwell and lesser trefoil.
On those lawns I use Spearhead.
I have my-self just moved across to Headland Relay turf I am tanking it with Cabadex to assist with the control of speedwell and lesser trefoil.
I cannot understand how I can visit a job spray front and rear lawns from the same mix in my knapsack return 8=10 weeks later one lawn weed free other looks like I planted weeds not sprayed to kill.
I have tried
Depitox
Depitox and Trafalgar
T2 Green tanked with Depitox
My 2013 treatment 1 visit was T2 Green and Depitox not impressed hence why I have changed, just been called back to a large job I did clients comment weeds have never looked so invasive since your visit,I will see how Headland turf does I have been recommended it by other guys who do lawn care and we all know its the control used by GT
Lawnman do you find you need a repeat visit with relay?
The reason I always used Spearhead in the past is I know it's one application per season.
When you factor in a repeat visit to a site to do another application I don't understand how it can be cost effective to use a 'cheaper' product.
Do you guys use a marker dye when spraying?
I just bought 10L of the stuff, the amount you actually use, chances are I will still be using it in 5 years plus time!
What do you think the best product is to tackle lesser trefoil?
I've had no need to reapply relay in a season; works perfectly for me and my jobs.
Repeat visit not necessary, but not good on lesser trefoil which is where I use Spearhead.
Only use marker dye on big sites, I am pretty good at walking one metre lines and rarely miss patches.
I quite like the blue shade the marker dye leaves, but it gets everywhere and I have blue hands for a couple of days after using it.

The blue dye is excellent but you do end up "looking like you have done a bank job" if you are not careful!
I tend use the RT blue marker dye.
Go see your friendly Vet, get a 5cc or 10cc syringe (no needle) and a length of silicone tube.
Push onto syringe & use gloves. Solves most of the problems as few drips :-)
Still get caught out occasionally, normally before an important meeting :-(
I've been using 2-4D (Depitox) at £35 for 5liters at 490gram/liter this season.
I've found it to be very effective overall on everything except trefoil and celandine - which both require a second, and sometimes third spray to kill off completely.
For spot treatments I've tried 4.9g/l mix and 7.35g/l mix, and found the main difference was at 7.35 weed death was all within 14 days, and ragwort / large established dandelions were all killed, at 4.9g/l ragwort and dandelions clung on, some dying by 21, but some surviving.
