Searching for solid Tines for my "BIG WILLY"

I`ve got a Pedestrian Aerator, "Big Willy" and i`m searching for some new solid tines for it, they are 3 1/2 inch round solid tines and I will need 50 to replace my old ones.I`ve been quoted £8 per tine!!! That equates to over £400 with delivery, I only paid £650 for the machine.Does anybody have any experience with this machine or indeed finding cheaper solid tines. Thanks in advance for your help gang.Jim

  • Hi Jim

I am not familiar with the items that you require nor am I clear if the price you have been quoted is from the original equipment manufacturer or a local machinist. If however the price is from the original equipment supplier then it really would be worth taking one of the tines to a local machine shop. I worked as a buyer in an engineering company and if you didn't already know I can tell you there are some very skilled engineers who are able to revers engineer an item from a pattern. It is worth going around to a few shops as the price will vary depending if they have some spare material etc. Also, ensure to advise what you are using it for as you need to be using a suitable grade of steel. I would expect the price to be at least half as the typical mark up on resale is between times 2 to 3 on the purchase price.
I am still in contact with an extremely good machine shop so if you need any help then please let me know.
  • allett took over the marketing and dropped the rts logo around 2004, allen have,i believe kept their willys in the range, not sure if they are the same as yours,as i only found an exploded parts diagram picture with the part numbers.
so contact allett and tell them what machine you have and ask if these part numbers are correct.....
    SOLID TINES....RT00001300(12mm thick)

    HOLLOW....RT00001301

sorry if these are not right, but the diagram was for a little willy and a big willy, the difference being the number needed
